Activating Disruptive Fashion Modes and Practices

Make Yourself… an outfit together

Today we had the third day of our Make Yourself… event at BITZ, unibz fablab. The overall theme was dresses, shirts and ponchos, with people taking inspiration from the materials available, some simple patterns which were provided and their imagination.

We had a great mix of citizens and locals, and over the day about 30 visitors. About half of them stayed throughout the day, making several outfits. We could see the great skill-set some of the refugees bring along, and are happy to share with the other makers, such as helping to repair sewing machines, advice with measuring and making.

Most of the participants worked in small teams of two or three, giving advice to each other regarding design and technicalities. This phenomenon is also illustrated in the title – “making an outfit together”, where the process of the collaborative making activity is equally important as the final outcome. Towards the end, we had a really enthusiastic group that stayed the entire day – and came together in the evening for a group shot to remember this positive experience of collaborative fashion making.

With Mode Uncut we are interested in further exploring this idea of a service offering for experiences of making together and making differently. More on this subject will follow during the seminar on Friday 16th December, at BITZ unibiz fablab, 14.00 – 17.00.imag0855 imag0857
